Final Review of Year One, by Nora Roberts

I have my general review on my good reads.
Really this is a hard book to describe. I only gave it a 3 stars. I dont know how the book was advertised, I got it as a Christmas gift and read it with no prior knowledge. This is also my first Nora Roberts book. I liked alot of the characters, and Ive said too many times in my posts I liked the "spooky" moments that happened at the beginning and a little bit toward the middle. Unfortunately that didnt last. It was also kind of odd because the book just had a lot of detail about where they went to, their set up, and then they had to leave again. All in all I thought it was a strong start, but not a strong final quarter. Ill still look at the sequel because Im interested to what happens to everyone else since the author kind of just abandoned them at the end.

Your thoughts on this book?

Worst Books of 2018

I actually have reviews all of these books on Amazon, Ill link that along with the brief description I write.

1) Ready Player One

This book was mostly boring more than anything else. I wrote in my review how its 99% story and 1% plot. If you know the difference it can be annoying. I felt the references were at least too old for me so i hardly cared. I did NOT like wade, especially at the end where everything is wrapped up a little too perfectly and no struggle.
I know a huge gripe for me was the beginning. Just about 70 pages in and I wanted to drop it. It took forever to get to the clues, it was a slog, and as soon as something epic or interesting happened it immediately dropped off after that. Huge disappointment would not recommend.

2) Shatter Me and Unravel Me

Ill keep this one short, because the biggest reason was Julliette. She was incredibly unlikable. I cant believe someone built a series around this character. I mainly got it bc I heard its one of the few series that get better with each one. Definitely not the case for me, I thought the 2nd one was worst.
Full reviews will say it, I spent a 30 minute car ride ranting to my roommate when I was done with unravel me. I dont know if Ill get to ignite me...

3) The Omega Super Hero Series (just the first 3)

I didn't write a review for the first one because I thought it was just ok, and definitely started off pretty interesting. What I remember liking the most is how detailed he gets with how he uses his power of telekinesis. But oh boy..when we get to the second one it starts going down hill, even worst with the 3rd one which is when I decided to stop after that. I read a synopsis for the 4th book and plan on staying far away from it.
The 2nd has ALOT of illogical plot ideas. Its centered around heroes taking a test to become official heroes. The tests were boring an unimaginative, the worst and more illogical offense is that heroes can ACTUALLY  die while taking the test even though most of it was simulation/ holograms. They couldn't make a less life threatening simulation?
The 3rd one...it was WAY too long. I think less stuff happens in this book than the first or second and this one is longer. They throw in a "chosen one" plot and the ending is ridiculous with hero jesus protecting the city. Dont recommend the series at all.
I mainly started this series because I like super hero. But this and some other books have turned me off from Hero novels. Ill write a whole other blog for that later.

4) Air Awakens

So I think the biggest thing to take away from this book (which I stopped halfway through PG 171 of 325) is that the Story/plot she wrote for this character does NOT fit the character she presented. Ill explain as simply as this: Vhalla is a commoner "intelligent" book worm who discovers she is a sorcerer with great powers. Heres the biggest problem:
She is not incredibly powerful because she is "smart" or because shes read about magic before it even manifests. Nope shes just really strong because thats what author wrote it for and is some kind of chosen one, the first airbender to be born in 150 years.
This is the first book I DNFd. I didn't even feel like summing up my thoughts on it so this is an exceprt from my review. For the full thing : here .

Well those are my Worst Books of 2018! Agree? Disagree? Let me know!

Day 2&3 of Year One

Still going pretty strong. Im really interested in the idea of a disease that infects but those that survive get powers. Its a common event I imagine when I dream up random stories while driving. So seeing it here is quite interesting.
So far I've gotten to Chapter 9. Im a little disappointed most of the spookyness has gone. I hope it keeps it and doesn't go just full Evil Sorcerers or whatever they are.
My favorite character so far is Fred, shes awesome and I love how competent she is. Knowledgeable character are some of my favorites and I like her abilities helping them in the subway and her runes. Shes also just in general delightful and positive!
Im interested to see how Jonahs story plays out, he has an interesting power to see the darkness and light in people. Im looking forward to how he reacts to the world as the story progresses,

2018 Books Read Wrap Up!

Its been a crazy year for my reading. Its the first time Ive really devoted myself to it as more than a hobby and more how I spend my free time. I used to just read before bed and that was it. My new job left alot of free time and before I knew it, BAM! I was reading alot at work and took time I would normally use to play video games/ watch Netflix and read instead. It felt like I was reading a book a week!
Ive been inspired to read more and start writing.
This year presented me with some really good books, and some really big stinkers, including my very first DNF. (Now that Im less choosy about what I read this is bound to happen more often.)

The Captive Prince Trilogy Review

This series epically surprised me. I originally decided to take a look at this because I heard it was quite controversial so I really wanted to see what I would think of it.
To be honest, I dont see the issue with it that much. The first thing that came to my mind in comparison is the Stars tv show Spartacus. If you can stomach that than this book isnt a big deal.
I really enjoyed these characters. If you are aware enough, Laurents actions in the first book do have a hint of his past and you KNOW that something is there.
Of course, later you figure out so much back story to Laurent and really understand why things played out the way they did.
In my opinion I really liked Laurent and Damen as a couple. I very much enjoyed following Damens point of view as a strong, honest, and just Good character. One of my favorite characters are intellectual and strategic characters making Laurent equally enjoyable.
The ending of the trilogy definitely wrapped up a little too quickly and too smoothly but it didnt tarnish my over all opinion.
If you like a good plot of intrigue, romance (a fair amount of smut in 2nd and 3rd book) and great characters I recommend picking this up.

Novel : Year One Inital Thoughts

Loved the beginning of this so far. 4 chapters in. Its spooky with good pacing and I was already attached to characters after just reading them for a page.
Looking forward to what this book brings!
